Overweight And Not Motivated? How To Avoid Diabetes, And Heart Disease, By Learning How To Diet

Most overweight folks would like to lose weight but haven't been truly motivated. In part, this is because we don't know how to go about it. This information is readily available so there must be something else contributing to our complacency about obesity. That "something else" is that we do not take the threat of obesity-related diseases seriously. Warnings are typically not personalized.
Let's take a look at some of the common "collateral damage" associated with obesity. And, consider how one of these diseases would impact your life and family.


DIABETES
There are two types of diabetes: type 1, also called diabetes insipidus, typically occurs in individuals under the age of 30. This condition is characterized by a lack of insulin production and the need for insulin injections.

Type 2, diabetes mellitus, is the more common type and implies insulin production that is inadequate to meet the needs of the body. It can often be managed by means of dietary control. In the past, diabetes mellitus was considered to be an adult-onset condition. However, since obesity has become the norm, a growing number of children have been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus (type 2).

Diabetes mellitus is a serious condition. If untreated, or treated inadequately, it may lead to heart disease, blindness, and limb amputation. The most effective treatment of diabetes, type 2, is weight loss.

HEART DISEASE AND STROKE
Excess weight often leads to high blood pressure and high blood levels of fat, both of which may damage blood vessels. Damage of vessels leading from and to the brain and heart may reduce blood flow and thus interfere with the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to vital tissue which in turn may lead to heart attack or stroke.

The American Heart Associate states that a mere loss of five to ten percent of body weight can significantly reduce the likelihood of stroke and heart attack. Put that into perspective... if you are 120 pounds overweight, if you lose only six to twelve pounds you will reduce your risk of these life-changing diseases. Six to twelve pounds! You can lose that much in a month or two! (A further benefit is that if you lose those first few pounds you will be motivated to continue your efforts to lose weight.

Starting today, take just a few steps to get yourself on the right track:
- Choose fruits, vegetables, reduced fat dairy products, and lean cuts of meat.
- Eat slowly so your brain has a chance to register fullness. Then, stop eating.
- Fill your plate with half fruits and veggies, one-fourth grains, and one-fourth protein. No second helpings please.
- Add 30 minutes of moderate exercise to your daily routine. Too busy? You have a whole lot more time now than if you require a period of rehab from heart attack or stroke. Something as simple as walking for 30 minutes five days per week is all you need.
